When HBO and MAX approached us with the opportunity to help promote some of their shows for a local event, we knew it was the perfect moment to explore a powerful (and often overlooked) feature of our photo booth activations: custom digital backgrounds using Green Screen, Blue Screen, or even AI Background Removal.

📸 What Is AI Background Replacement?
Unlike traditional green screen setups that require a literal screen behind your guests, AI Background Replacement uses software to automatically detect and remove the background — live and on-site. That means guests can pose anywhere and still walk away with a photo that looks like they’re on a Springsteen album cover or center frame in a Movie Poster.
No room for backdrop? No problem.

With either our Pro Selfie Booth or Roaming Booth, here’s what we can do:
✅ Guest Experience:
Guests will pose for their photo 📸
Tap to choose from a variety of backgrounds (ex: Holiday Theme, Virtual Background with Your Logo, etc.)
Get it instantly via Text, Email, QR Code, or AirDrop 📲
Or keep the photo candid and give guests the option to keep the real-life backdrop (ideal for our Roaming Photo Booth), where you might want us to cover an expansive venue space.
✅ Behind the Scenes:
Once we have gone through the discovery process of your event theme, and idea we will setup the back end of your event for success.
Backgrounds are loaded into our software | These can be our pre-built selection, or custom designs provided by you or our in-house team. (we’ll have examples down below)
Depending on the style you selected, we’ll setup either the AI or Green Screen technology to replace the real background in real time.
Photos and videos can include your event branding, logos, or overlay graphics.
In most cases, there is a background image, and then the foreground (the overlay) that gets placed on top.
And the best part, there is no need for post-event editing — it’s all delivered on the spot. Plus, throughout the event, your gallery updates in real-time, allowing you or your team to post content to your social media feed or stories.
🎬 Real-World Use Cases
🎤 Highlight Sponsors (or Create A Theme): Guests will choose their favorite background and strike a pose worthy of posting to their social media feeds. In the example below, our Roaming Booth Service was used to promote a video game called “7 Days Blood Moons” where fans of the game were teleported into different biomes (maps) within the game.
🎟️ HBO & MAX Activation: This was one of our favorites as guests were able to act out scenes. They provided the custom video background and we provided the rest. A cinematic green screen photo booth that placed guests inside show scenes. In the example below, our Pro Selfie Booth was used to promote shows like House of the Dragon and The Penguin. Plus every text message was branded to send special thank you’s to guests.
🎪 Movie Promotion Activation: Our Roaming Booth service was utilized to promote a Warner Bros movie called “Sinners”. Guests were able to choose between being on the Movie Poster or having their candid background with the movie branding overlay.

We’ve been able to test these activations in both indoor and outdoor situations with great success.
Please note: The only thing to be aware of with AI Background removal is that it does not work well with large groups or face masks, as the software is optimized to remove non-human elements. If there are groups of people straying in the background, they might still appear in the photos.
